Nutrition for people living with HIV and AIDS
means eating a higher protein, higher fiber diet, that includes a handful of nut and of seeds daily, to provide essential fats. Complications like high cholesterol and triglycerides, facial thinning and lipoatrophy can be reversed or prevented with better diet, plus use of antioxidant vitamins, minerals like selenium and magnesium, and other supplements, like fish oils, primrose oil and L-carnitine. Side effects to HAART, like fatigue, neuropathy and diarrhea often cause people to be less compliant with medicines; good nutrition can help people avoid problems like lipodystrophy.
